December 2020 Core Update
Google announced this morning it will be releasing the December 2020 Core Update later today. Core updates impact how Google ranks websites and how Google determines what is the most relevant web page for a specific query.
What is a core update?
This is the third core update for 2020. Core updates don’t target anything specific. Overall, this update is to improve Google’s algorithm systems. The last core update was the May 2020 Core Update and took a couple of weeks to fully roll out.
What can you expect from this core update?
- Widely notable effects (drops or gains) on search rankings.
- Pages that drop in rankings aren’t being penalized, they are being reassessed against other web content.
- Continue to focus on providing the best content for your company.
Much like the last core algorithm update, here is a list on what to expect.
Knowing when Google updates their core algorithm gives us something to look for if it had to do with a change on your website or something Google changed. Today, we know Google will be releasing a core ranking update so we are monitoring for updates and will make recommendations if necessary.
